I dug out my old Hallicrafters S-120 the other day. Couldn't
hear much but it's been so long I didn't know if it was the radio
or just propagation. I saw on eBay someone selling tube sets for
S-120 (it only has 4) so I splurged for them. Put them in this
morning and was amazed at the difference. For its size it is really
a nice radio.

But that wasn't the biggest surprise. It still had the original
(labeled) Hallicrafters tubes in it and while performance wasn't
so great, it did actually work. That's about 63 years.

Pretty good chance of that. I am going thru a lot of my antique radios
with hopes to revive them. A lot need replacement electrolytics but I
am sure that some will need tubes as well.
