Need?....possibly not.

Desire?... probably yes.

Reasons:
1) The balun/unun will better match the antenna to the transmission line
and receiver. This will give you better receive performance which may,
or may not, matter to your application.
2) The balun/unun will provide a dc ground path for the antenna. This
can prevent/reduce static buildup on the antenna. Your post is unclear
if you are really doing a beverage (which is terminated at both ends) or
a random wire antenna (which is not terminated at the far end). Static
buildup can harm the receiver.

Don't forget to use proper lightning protection.

Interesting question. What I would do if I were you is just stick with a
long wire antenna. You sound to me like you are just way too God damn
fucking retarded to be able to construct a properly working beverage.
